Contract Intelligence for Legal Teams: A Webinar Recap with Intel

Intel’s legal operations team is setting a high bar for how technology can transform legal departments. Their forward-thinking approach to contract intelligence demonstrates how AI can go beyond simplifying processes to drive strategic value for the entire organization.

In a recent Evisort webinar, Michael Haven, Head of Global Legal Operations, and Donovan Bell, Director of Legal Operations at Intel, joined Evisort’s Memme Onwudiwe to share insights into their groundbreaking work.

The discussion explored how Intel’s legal team uses AI-powered contract intelligence to accelerate workflows, enhance compliance, and uncover business opportunities.

Bringing AI to Life in Legal Operations

Intel has embraced AI as a catalyst for innovation across its legal operations. Their approach combines practical experimentation with a clear vision for scaling AI to support strategic decision-making. As Michael Haven shared, the key to success lies in creating a culture of collaboration and experimentation.

“We didn’t wait for problems to arise,” Haven explained. “We showed our teams the possibilities AI could unlock, and they came to us with ideas on how it could enhance their work.” This proactive approach has transformed how Intel’s legal department views AI—not as a tool to solve isolated problems, but as an enabler of innovation and efficiency.

For Intel, one of the most significant challenges was ensuring data readiness. As Donovan Bell noted, “AI cannot help you manage contracts without access to the data. Having your information centralized and accessible is critical.” Once the foundation was in place, Intel began exploring diverse use cases, from managing litigation notices to analyzing contracts for mergers and acquisitions.

A Deep Dive into AI Use Cases

One standout example from the webinar was how Intel leverages AI to manage litigation notices. Donovan Bell detailed a scenario where AI allowed their team to quickly analyze hundreds of contracts to identify key notification clauses, saving time and reducing the risk of oversight.

Traditionally, such efforts would require significant input from outside counsel. By automating this process, Intel not only reduced costs but also empowered its in-house team to act faster and more independently.

Another innovative use case involves using AI for divestitures. Intel’s legal team needed to assess the impact of divesting business units on contractual obligations. The AI’s ability to scan and classify contracts rapidly provided essential insights, enabling the company to make informed decisions with confidence.

Driving Adoption Through Collaboration

Haven emphasized that gaining widespread adoption of AI tools required more than demonstrating the technology’s capabilities. “We made it a collaborative process,” he shared. “By involving teams across the organization in testing and decision-making, we ensured that everyone felt ownership over the outcomes.”

This collaborative approach fostered excitement and buy-in, which Haven described as critical for achieving adoption at scale. “It’s not just about having the best tools. Utilization is what makes them valuable,” he said.

What’s Next for Legal AI?

As AI continues to evolve, Intel’s experience highlights the potential for legal teams to take the lead in driving organizational innovation.
